Plot Summary:
In Chapter Sixteen- we begin with the storm still proceeding through. Aureliano makes the most of his time that he is spending with his children even though it is still raining. And he continues to stay at home even though he can not stand it there. He is very frustrated because he loses mostly all of his livestock that he owned because of the retarded storm. Also Ursula tells the children stories on top of stories about their ancestors. Even if the children are not into it, they still listen to learn about their past. Since the treacherous storm is still going on, Aureliano Segundo makes the most out of his time by spending time with the children of the home. When the storm is dwindling down, the town has to completely restart because of the wreck it left behind.

Quotes:
Quote One- " I don't need it, " he said. "I'll stay until it clears"(pg. 315).

- - They do not need help, when the storm passes through, they will continue you on also.

Quote Two- "You're crazy," he told her. "Unless you plan to raffle off bones"(pg. 332).
- - You can not take her for anything. She is old and is bone, and if you plan on raffling her off, you will not get anything in return, so find something else that is worth it.
Theme:

The main theme in this chapter is disaster. When the storm starts, it begins as a normal storm, but as it continues it gets very violent. Eventually the entire town has to start over because of the huge wreck that the town is left with.

Magical Realism:
Once again the storm is the center of the magical realism. It represents death and destruction which eventually leads to life and rebirth of the city. It kind of ties in the creation story from the Bible, and helps make us understand of what is going on in the town. The magical element is being able to rebuild so easily or quickly.

Character Development:
Aureliano- begins to spend a lot of time with his children. Also, he loses a lot in this chapter, like his livestock, and can continue on. Shows he is the bigger man in the situation or predicament he is put in.
Ursula- tells the children stories about the past. Helping them to understand the history of the family. Also, she may foresee that her age is approaching her so she needs to pass the knowledge on.
