Pilar also announces to Aureliano that she is pregnant and he will recognize him as his child. Jose the father becomes very involved in trying to get a music box to work, and when that happens he finally loses his mind and thinks time is standing still, and sees the ghost of the man he killed. He goes crazy and his family is forced to tie him to a tree in the backyard where he would carry out the majority of the rest of his life.

Quotes:
Quote 1- "I've come to sleep with you"(pg. 67).
Quote 2- "I have found immortality"(pg. 72).

Themes:
Love- is a main theme through out this chapter. Aureliano shows that he is in love with Remedios. He proves this when he takes the time to care for her, and teach her when she is unable to do it for herself. Rebeca is also another one in love. She shows great affection to Pierto whenever she can to prove that she really wants to be with him.

Magical Realism:
The magical element of this chapter is a fairy who was brought up. Jose the son thinks that Pierto Crespi is someone that no one really knows about. But he is a fairy that looks at other people. He also begins to daydream about his fantasies and then gots so lost in time that he misses out on things. This shows that being lost in time can happen, and that if you do, you shouldn't get caught up in it.

Character Development:
There is really no character development in this chapter. Some children express their emotions to the opposite sex, but nothing happens with that. No plot or no real emtions go into it.
