Plot Summary:
Chapter Five- Begins with Aureliano and Remedios finally get married. She loves her house and could not fit in so well anywhere else. She tells everyone that she will be having a baby soon and can not wait. Amaranta and Rebeca get over their problems for her and even stop fighting to make clothes for the new one coming. Remedios then dies which is really sad. Then Rebeca and Pierto's marriage is then put on hold for all the new plans in life that occur. While she puts it on hold, she falls in love with her brother Jose the son, and marries him(which is kind of weird). The "second round" Amaranta and Pierto become engaged. Aureliano tells his mom that Amaranta’s marriage should be put on hold because that is kind of soon to decide something like marriage. Maybe it is not worth it because you might be just depressed. During this period Jose the father in law urges him to remarry. The most important thing is that Aureliano then becomes involved in the war, and leads the revolution and becomes Colonel Aureliano.

Themes:
Theme 1- Love (again)- This theme is still displayed in many different ways. The major one is by how the "siblings" are together and stay really close to one another. Also by how people get matched up out of no where. It is showing us that love is not as important as what people believe it is.

Magical Realism:
Madness- (mentally) is a HUGE part of the magical realism aspect in this chapter. The one that suffers the most from it is Jose Arcadio Buendia the father. He goes completely crazy. He still tied to the tree as was in the past couple chapters. He can’t even communicate in his language anymore. The only thing he can speak is Latin, and lost memory of his family to that of his own identity as well.

Character Development:
Rebeca- is someone that is respectable and in love and turns into a weirdo with the incest with her brother.
Jose-who happnes to be the father changes to a man who is completely lost within himself. He is no longer the man he used to be.
