Plot Summary:
Chapter Eleven - begins with a history of Fernanda del Carpio. While growing up, she was told to think that she is absolutely great even though her family and their "famous" name was fading away as the money lessened. Aureliano Segundo meets her, and falls for her completely. He finds her, brings her home, and then marries her. However, their personalities did not get along very well. So he continues with sleeping with a girl on the side. With all of their problems, Aureliano Segundo and Fernanda still have two children: Renata Remedios (Meme), and José Arcadio (II). He has seventeen illegitimate sons. Then on Ash Wednesday, all of them go to get ashes and they do not wash the ashes off their heads. They kept them on until they were until they died. Some of the sons stick around to begin their lives and figure truths out. But Aureliano Triste builds a railroad which links Macondo to the modern world.
